My adventure to Changsha began with a vigorous hike up Yuelu Mountain, rewarded with sweeping views and a visit to the historic Yuelu Academy. As night fell, I explored Orange Isle, mesmerized by the stunning night view over the Xiang River. The journey continued to Yueyang, where I admired intricate Xiang embroidery before visiting the iconic Yueyang Tower. Gazing out over Dongting Lake, I truly felt the “boundless expanse where sky and water merge in one azure hue” described in the Yueyang Tower Record. Of course, the trip was perfectly seasoned with classic Hunan cuisine – the savory Dong’an chicken and fiery chili pepper pork were unforgettable highlights.
